Woolly Pen

The Woolly Pen is a fun tactile drawing kit designed for blind and vision impaired people. The “pen” or drawing tool dispenses wool as it’s dragged across an A4 sized pad that has a rough surface. The wool binds to the pad, leaving woolly tactile lines where your “pen” has been.  Images are created with the texture of the wool and can be felt by anyone.

It was designed by Quantum Technology in order to offer blind or vision impaired individuals an opportunity to create images or drawings of absolutely anything. Explaining simple road maps or showing answers of difficult to illustrate questions like “what does a volcano look like?” becomes possible.

This simple to use product immediately captures the imagination and interest of just about anyone. Creating instant and reusable images on the Woolly Pen gives blind and vision impaired people an opportunity and freedom to draw and enables concepts to be easily illustrated.

Children are free to express themselves and doodle to their hearts content. You can teach preschoolers to print their name, or explain the horrors of parabolas and gradients to a senior student, or simply show a blind or vision impaired person how to draw perspective drawings, the uses and possibilities are endless.
